Transunion has removed negative items from my credit report. Do other companies have to remove them too?

warden asked:

I have read that other credit reporting companies are required by law to do this. But I don’t know what the correct procedure is. It’s not as simple as filing a dispute with these companies using their online dispute forms, because these don’t allow you to attach information.

Do I mail a copy of the transunion resolution statement to the other companies intead?

Can we sue the credit bureau?

Mercedes asked:

My husband requested his annual credit report from all three bureaus. We noticed something was wrong when two of the credit bureaus (Equifax and Transunion) refused to show his report online stating that further verification was needed, or we had the option to request the report through the mail. Experian showed us a report but it was not my husband’s. They had mixed my husband and his Dad’s credit histories. My husband is 22 and the report stated he was born in 1955. It has over 15 years of accounts mostly very high balance delinquency accounts (over 40 accounts). None of which were opened by my husband. I requested reports from the other two agencies by mail and transunion sent me a correct report, but Equifax said that either I had not submitted enough identification or my husband had no history on file (which he shouldn’t because he as never applied for credit himself). The action I have taken so far is to mail Experian a dispute letter in which I identified every account individually and told them it was not his debt and that it was the debt of his dad which has a very similar name. As documents I sent a copy of the Transunion report, which is correct, an enlarged copy of his license, a W-2 form, and a pay stub. Of course I wrote the letter as my husband. I sent it three weeks ago and have had no response. What should I do at this point. This “mistake” has caused us to be denied for apartments, cell phones, and for home loans. We are stuck if this isn’t corrected

Where to Get Your Free Annual Credit Report

Tisha Kulak asked:

All consumers are entitled to a free credit report every 12 months. Some states, including Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Vermont have state laws that make residents eligible for a free credit report under state law. Additionally, all consumers who have been denied credit have a right to request a copy of their credit report for further review. Credit reports can also be requested with a credit score rating at any time for a fee from the 2 major credit reporting agencies, Equifax and TranUnion. Recently, the third agency, Experian, has stopped providing consumers with access to their reports.

When To Get A Free Report

Consumers are entitled to receive one free credit report for each agency every year. It might be wise to order one, work to improve your credit and then order the subsequent reports a few months later to see what has changed. You can also order all reports at the same time to compare, since neither report will show the exact same information.

How To Get A Free Report

There are many places, including directly from the credit reporting agencies, where you can order your credit report but the central location where you can request your free report is through the website Annual Credit Report. There you can request your report via email, regular mail, or by phone.

Why Get A Free Report?

It is widely suggested that you take advantage of the free credit report each year, if only for monitoring purposes. Reviewing your credit report often will help alert you to incidents of credit fraud and potentially false information that can dramatically reduce your credit rating. Any errors should be reported immediately to the credit reporting agency from where the report was published. If you are denied credit for any reason, you should request a copy of your report to review and see what you can do to improve the score before completing other applications for credit.

Keep in mind that your credit report will not contain a credit score. That type of report can be obtained for a fee by contacting the respective credit reporting agencies. Your credit score, created by Fair Issac complies your credit history information into a mathematical equation which lenders use to assess your creditworthiness.

Fixing Your Credit Report

When you do get and review your credit report and find that it may not be as good as it could or should be, know that you can make the improvements to your credit yourself. You can start by making sure your payments are on time each month and you control your spending on credit. Beware of the companies that claim they can repair your credit for you. Many times these companies are scams or in the very least, they charge you for services you can do on your own for free.

Visit Annual Credit Report website today and request your free credit report today to make sure you know where you stand financially. If you plan to make big purchase in the next few months, such as a house, car, or apply for a personal loan, it is in your best interest to work on improving your credit report before applying in order to get the best rates and have the most options available to you.

Common Credit Report Mistakes

Mike Clover asked:

it report is not something to be taken lightly these days. It is almost as important as your social security card. There will come a time where your credit report will be required for credit purposes. We see credit reports on a daily basis, and there typically are issues with that individual’s credit report that was not known. This is all too common due to a lack of staying on top of your personal credit report. Here are some common issues we see that cause loans to get denied.

Credit Report Issues:

- Credit Cards charged beyond credit limit

- Credit Cards charged above 30% of allowed credit limit

- Late payments

- Co-signed for loans

- No Credit

- Credit Score too low

- Your dads credit shows up on your report because you are a junior

- Medical Collections

- Stolen Identity

- Credit card fraud

The majority of the time most people have no idea that the previous information discussed affects your credit report. All it takes is one of these mistakes to have issues getting credit extended to you.

If you are getting ready to make a purchase you can definitely save on interest rates and terms by pulling a copy of your credit report with credit scores. This is a preventive measure so you don’t get blind sided with a credit problem. There is a 1 n 4 chances your credit report has incorrect information on it.

Suggestions to avoid common credit report mistakes

- Pull your credit report every 3 months

- Don’t be late on obligations

- Don’t co-sign for anyone

- Don’t charge more on a credit card than you can pay off that month

- Establish credit if you don’t have any with Secured Credit Cards

- Pay your medical bills

- Shred all document that come in the mail to avoid id theft

It only makes since these days to watch out for the problems that have been mentioned. You have nothing to loose by checking your credit report with credit scores regularly. You would be suprised about how many people have identity theft going on with them and not even know about it, until its too late. Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. Most identity theft could have been prevented with a little better credit management. If you have not checked your credit in a while, now is a good time to get that piece of mind. This is part of proper credit managment.

Make Good Use of Your Annual Free Credit Report

Steve Evans asked:

u can use your credit report you need to get yur report. Reports are available on request. Free credit reports requested by phone or mail will be processed within 15 days of receiving your request. Such reports were mandated by a federal law enacted in 2003. The program has all now been implemented.

AnnualCreditReport.com is reportedly the only official site where you can get a genuinely free copy of your credit report from all three reporting agencies. And if you/\’d rather order your free credit report by phone or by mail, you can do that too . AnnualCreditReport.com processes requests for free credit file disclosures (commonly called credit reports). I have been told that under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act) consumers can request and obtain a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies.

Now once you have joined up for your credit report such as at AnnualCreditReport.com, there is an extra peril. This is that when you receive phishing spam pretending to be your report provider asking for personal information, you may think it is from your real provider asking for your details again from you for a Review” or a “verification”. The thing to remember here is that all the nationwide consumer reporting companies have pledged that they will not send you an email asking for your personal information.

If you get an email, see a pop-up ad, or get a phone call from someone claiming to be from your credit report provider - don/\’t trust them! Do not reply but delete the email, do not click on any link in the message.

Companies or individuals promising quick fixes are almost always fraudulent. The important thing to remember is that no one can have accurate information removed from the credit file. Companies still do get away with reading your report. Haven/\’t you ever received a pre-approved credit card?

Identity theft is also on the rise, now being the number one consumer complaint reported to the Federal Trade Commission. One of the first places identity theft shows up is often on your credit report.

Identity theft may show up as suspicious credit inquiries, changes of address, accounts in default, or new fraudulent accounts in your name.

Monitoring your credit report is your first line of defense in protecting your identity. I like to use the Stop Junk Mail service because I can stop all the credit card offers and other junk mail. Monitor your credit report to catch ID fraud early.

Information here should not be construed as advice and it is offered without legal responsibility or liability. It must be emphasised that you should consult a professionally qualified individual or company (such as an accountant, financial adviser or solicitor for example) should you need advice on your financial situation, as they will be able to relate their advice to your personal needs accordingly.

Getting A Credit Report With Your Credit Card, Be Careful!

Emanuele Allenti asked:

We have all seen the advertisements on the Internet telling us that we are entitled to free credit reports. But many people want to know if they can get their free credit report without a credit card? In short the answer is no, because if you want to check your free credit report without a credit card, you will be hard pressed to find a company that will be willing to do that.

The reason that you can’t check your free credit report without a credit card is because you need a credit card for the verification process. This then shows that you are who you say you are. Credit cards are a good way to prove your identity and a lot of people from all over the world have a credit card partially for this purpose. But of course you can’t apply for a credit card unless you know your credit score; this then saves you the hassle of possibly getting turned down for a credit card.

If you want a free credit report without a credit card, then there are ways to do this. You can write to one of the credit-reporting agencies with a copy of a recent bill, or a copy of your driving license. You then mail them your request for your free credit report. There is another way to get a free credit report without a credit card and that is by making a telephone call to one of the credit reporting agencies; they will be happy to oblige with your request.

It is almost impossible to get a free credit report without a credit card on the Internet. Credit cards are the only way to prove to these companies that you are who you say you are. But if you are not heavily concerned about your credit score, then you can wait for your annual credit report, which means that you will always get a free credit report without a credit card.

There are hundreds of websites that offer you the opportunity to view your free credit report with no obligations–no obligations, that is, until your 30-day free trial runs out. That is the main problem with these companies; they will let you see your free credit report with no obligations. But if you do not cancel your membership with them before the end of your 30-day free trial, then they will start to charge you for a service that you are no longer using. That is hardly fair, considering you only joined them to view your free credit report with no obligations.

These companies understand that you will want to view your free credit report with no obligations. So that is why they are only offering their customers 30 days free membership. Remember that you must cancel your membership before the 30 days are over, otherwise you will be charged a month’s worth of use. They will always let you know how you can cancel. The information on how to cancel will usually be printed in the small print on the bottom of the webpage; write that information down, so you can become a free member. Then you can check your free credit report with no obligations.

If you want to view your free credit report with no obligations, then you have options. You can check either through the Internet or you can get it through the mail. You can do this by getting in touch with an official credit-reporting company. The best thing about these official credit-reporting companies is that you will receive your free credit report with no obligations and you won’t have to give them your credit card information. Going with an online company for your credit report is a good idea if you need to keep a constant eye on your credit reports, but if you are happy with just your annual report then there is no real reason for you to sign up to one of these credit websites.

Obtain Your Credit Report For Free

Mel Jensen asked:

Every year consumers have the right to review their credit report for free. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion and Experian) provide you with your credit report. It is recommended that you take the time at least once a year to review your credit report. You can obtain information regarding the FCRA or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.FTC.gov.

The website can provide you with information regarding your rights and your right to obtain your annual credit report for free. A credit report provides information on where you live and your credit history. It also provides information on any legal issues you may have included being sued, arrested, or filed for bankruptcy.

This information is used to evaluate applications for credit, insurance, employment or renting a home. It is extremely important that you take the time to review your credit report and dispute any information that is not accurate on your report. This is often called disputing and can be done by the individual but is often very tedious and time consuming. A legitimate credit repair company such as Ovation Credit Services can obtain information from you about which items on your credit report is inaccurate and dispute that information for you until the information is correct. Credit repair is a legal way for you to correct information on your credit report that is inaccurate.

You can obtain your FREE credit report by one of three methods:

1. You can go online to annualcreditreport.com (be sure that you spell this accurately since there are many imposter sites).

2. You can phone 1-877-322-8228 and provide them with the necessary information.

3. You can obtain an Annual Credit Report Request Form (generally online at www.ftc.gov) and mail that to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

No matter which way that you choose to obtain your credit report, you will need to provide some information. That information is your name, Social Security Number and date of birth. Sometimes you will need to also provide additional information to verify your identity. That information may include information that only you would know such as your monthly mortgage payment amount.

There are many imposter sites that will offer you a free credit report but only if you purchase one of their products. The authorized site may have some offers or additional products for sale but you are not required to purchase them to obtain your free credit report. That free credit report will have information from the three major credit bureaus.

Reasons for Checking Your Credit Report

Sean Patrick asked:

Your credit report and score tells lenders whether or not you are a good risk for a loan. Your credit history, payments, and account information are on this report. Your FICO score is also an important factor for lenders. The information contained in your credit report is used to generate your FICO score which acts as your credit “report card”. A FICO score is not the same as your regular credit scores. It uses different set of rules & algorithms for coming up with your credit score. And many lenders utilize the FICO score to determine your creditworthiness. Therefore it may be prudent to see what’s on your FICO score as well before applying for a loan.

Often the information contained in your credit report has some inaccuracies. This is why it’s important to check your credit report on a regualr basis. At least once a year to ensure that the information is correct and up to date.

Reasons you should check your credit report include:

* Basic Inaccuracies

Payments that’s have been made, but not credited to you. Late payments or having someone else’s date (especially if the names are similar) being mixed in with yours. If you notice inaccurate information, you must contact the credit reporting agency to get the mistake corrected.

* Tracking Payments

Many times, checks sent through the mail do not reach the accounting office of the company on time, or get lost in the mail. Such late or missed payment issues could be posted on your credit file. Therefore you would need to correct this information by contacting the creditor. If you don’t read your credit report, you will not know which payments have been received and properly reported.

* Identity Theft

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in thw U.S. It’s one that has caused people to have poor credit ratings because someone has received credit or loans in their name and defaulted on the payments. Your credit report will show you the list of accounts that have been opened in your name. Check them carefully to ensure they match your personal financial details.

* Inquiries

Your credit report will list the names of companies or persons who have requested information regarding your credit history. Read them carefully to make there’s no fraudulent activity and/or unauthorized entry that could be related to id theft. Also, too many inquiries are seen as unfavorable by lenders and will make it harder to obtain loans.

* Credit Fraud - Unauthorized Charges

Credit fraud involves the unauthorized use of your credit cards or account number to make charges on your account. Sometimes this is done so subtly that you do not notice the extra charges on your monthly statement. By viewing your credit report, you will be able to catch new activity on your accounts, especially if they are ones you haven’t been using.

When it comes to managing your credit worthiness, your credit report is your best resource. Viewing your credit report gives you the opportunity to manage your credit wisely. While planning a credit strategy to achieve future goals, you should regularly review your credit report to ensure an excellent credit rating.

*Free Credit Report Services

Free credit report services are not created equal. With some services, you’re able to see what’s on your credit report and score from all 3 major credit bureaus online - TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. This is important because the data contained in one credit bureau file may not match what’s on the others. Also, various lenders may choose to see one or more of your credit files. So it makes sense to obtain the most comprehensive report. And most services do not provide a free FICO score. You only get to see what’s on your regular credit scores. These are some of the reasons why it makes sense to do your homework and make comparisons between the features they provide.
