Difficulty with Experian, re: disputing errors on credit report. HELP?

ConvexLes asked:

I’ve been trying to resolve errors on my credit reports recently, but Experian is giving me a major headache. I sent them two letters via certified mail; one to request deletions, and a second one to request corrections. Instead of addressing these issues, they responded with letters claiming they could not honor my request because I didn’t provide enough info to verify my identity. Grrrr.

There are several inaccuracies on my credit reports, but Experian is REALLY inaccurate… plus I’m under some time pressure to get this resolved. According to the Experian website, the fastest way to dispute anything is online… but I apparently need a ‘report number’ to dispute the Experian inaccuracies. Since it’s been longer than 30 days since I accessed my ‘free’ reports, I can no longer access those. Does this mean I need to purchase new reports?

If so… does anyone have any positive experience with disputing credit report inaccuracies online with Experian? Is there a better/faster way?
Is there any reasonable way to purchase access to all 3 CRA’s, where you can dispute errors from alkl three agencies all at once? I was looking at Experian’s 3-in-1 reports ($40)… but they don’t say if you can dispute online directly from those reports, or how long you have access to them. I need to know the fastest (and simplest) way to do this. I can’t imagine why they make this process so complicated….
Johnny K - These are mostly items that have already been paid that are still showing delinquent. (Paid either by me directly to the creditor, or paid (late) by insurance. Most are old medical bills that have long been taken care of. They also think I still owe $17,000 on my truck… which I paid off the lease early, and purchased in 2004. (They seem to believe I have behind on my payments all these years. HA…What a mess!) There is also a large and rather puzzling phone bill with a provider I have never used.

There is one creditor (medical) that I do still owe money too… it seems insurance isn’t going to pay any more on it. (it took them about a year to pay anything on it… which is what I’ve been waiting for.) I’m willing to pay that bill… but is it unreasonable to ask them to remove it from my record once it’s paid? (It was never supposed to go to collections in the first place, since insurance was technically still pending…)

How do you follow up after you have submitted a dispute regarding something on your credit report?

crazycali asked:

I recently mailed some documents to dispute an item on my credit report. I received a phone call from an automated service stating that my request had been received and my dispute should be completed in 14days. Don’t really know where to go from here, or what the possible outcomes may be. Ive tried looking online but it seems i am looking in all the wrong places.

What happens to an outstanding credit when the company is shut down?

kmalip asked:

I use to have a nextcard and I’m trying to clean up my credit report. I tried calling the number but it won’t let me get past an automated system. I tried to find it online, but the website doesn’t exist anymore and the only thing I could find are federal litigations against the company. Needless to say the company no longer exists because they no longer have a bank associated with them as well as no financial backing. So what happens now? How do I get this off my credit report? Does anyone know?

What would you do If your dad used your name to get a credit card and didn’t tell you?

Maggie P asked:

My father took out a credit card in my name with an $800 credit limit. It is maxed out and over about 160dollars! I found out about it tonight only after having investigated my credit report online. He didnt’ tell me at all about the credit card. I live with him and my mother. They put a roof over my head and food on the table so I dont want to get him in trouble with the law but It makes me so angry he did this. He’s having a few debt problems himself and that’s why I am afraid he’s going to skip out on making payments and It will ruin my credit history. I dont even have a job to pay for this myself that just makes me even more worried !
I dont want my credit ruined before I even get started for the future.
What can I do about this situation?

Question about credit at 18 years old?

destructfashion asked:

I just turned 18 about 10 days ago, and I tried opening a checking account with bank of America, but received the following notification a few days later:

“We are unable to open your account(s) at this time. Our decision was based in whole or in part on information obtained in a report from a consumer-reporting agency.”

I’m assuming this means that it wasn’t opened because of information on my credit report. However, up until this point I haven’t been able to sign up for anything that involves credit, so shouldn’t I not really have a credit report? Considering that a checking account just involves me using money in my own account, I don’t know why it would be turned down based on a lack of credit.

Also, I tried checking my credit report online but every site requires a credit card number (even if the service is free), and I don’t have a credit card because I was a minor until about a week or so ago. So I don’t know how to check my credit report either.

Any tips on either of these things?

What’s the best Web site to do a tenant credit check?

Sally asked:

Hey Landlords —

Was wondering if anyone could suggest a site that is good for doing online credit checks on tenants. There are so many sites out there that offer them; I’m not sure exactly what I’m getting. Obviously, I want to get all three reporting agencies (if feasible), and I want a low price. I’ve seen the price on credit checks range from $9.95 to $29.99. What is reasonable?

Any specific Web sites anyone could point me to? Can you get the reports directly through the reporting agencies? It seems like most of these Web sites I’m finding are third parties. What would be the benefit of using a third party site?

I’m a new landlord. I’ve had no problem requesting my own credit report in the past; but this seems to be a totally different process. Please help!
By the way; I’ve received rental applications which have all the essential information like DOB, drivers license number, social security and all that. They have signed the applications which include consenting to a credit check.
But, no I don’t have their mothers maiden names or anything.
